1. What is Fight for America!?

Fight for America! is a live, interactive performance installation centered around a large-scale tabletop wargame that explores the events of January 6th at the U.S. Capitol, posing the question: What about America is worth fighting for? It’s a participatory experience that explores political division, extremism, and the future of democracy through gameplay and artistic engagement.

2. What is a tabletop wargame?

A tabletop wargame is a strategic game where players use miniature figures to simulate battles or conflicts on a game board. Players move pieces, follow specific rules, and engage in tactical decision-making to achieve objectives. In Fight for America!, the wargame simulates the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, allowing players to experience and reflect on the dynamics of political conflict.

3. Is Fight for America! partisan or political in nature?

The project is intentionally non-partisan and seeks to foster meaningful dialogue rather than promote any specific political agenda. Our goal is to examine the forces driving division in America and invite players to reflect on the state of democracy through participation in the game.

4. How does the live interactive performance work?

Participants can either play the game or observe as spectators. Players make strategic decisions, move pieces, and engage with the game’s mechanics, while spectators watch the action unfold. The entire installation creates a dynamic space for reflection and engagement with the themes of division and unity in American politics.

5. What makes this project different from other games or art installations?

Fight for America! combines art and gaming in a way that challenges participants to not only play a game but to also think critically about real-world issues. By integrating live performance and audience interaction, the project creates a unique, immersive experience that is part game, part art, and part social commentary.

6. What themes does the game explore?

The game explores themes of political division, extremism, and the fragility of democracy in the face of a 'win-at-all-costs' mentality. By simulating the events of January 6th, Fight for America! asks players to consider the impact of their decisions and reflect on the consequences of division in American politics.

7. Where can I experience the live performance?

The live performance installation will debut in New York City and in London in 2025. We will announce specific dates and locations on our website, social media channels, and through our Kickstarter updates, so stay tuned for more information!

8. Can I participate if I don’t want to play the game?

Absolutely! You can participate as an observer. The installation is designed to be as immersive for spectators as it is for players, and watching the game unfold will offer its own unique perspective on the themes being explored.

9. How long does a game session last?

The live performance installation lasts between 3 to 4 hours, depending on the strategies and decisions made by the players, but it will not exceed 4 hours. To enhance the experience, snacks will be served during gameplay!

10. Is the game suitable for all audiences?

The game tackles complex and sensitive issues surrounding political violence and division in America. We recommend it for mature audiences who are comfortable engaging with these topics. However, the project encourages open dialogue and reflection for all participants.

11. How many people can play the game live?

Up to 20 players can participate in the live performance of Fight for America!. This allows for a dynamic and interactive experience, with each player contributing to the unfolding of the game’s events.

12. Who is behind Fight for America!?

Fight for America! is produced by the american vicarious, a non-profit arts organization. It is created by artists Neal Wilkinson and Christopher McElroen, with game design by Alessio Cavatore (Warhammer 40K, Bolt Action). The project is supported by a team of collaborators dedicated to exploring the social and political issues shaping our world today. This collaboration between artists, performers, game designers, and audiences creates an experience that is both thought-provoking and engaging.

13. How can I support the project?

14. Will I be able to play Fight for America! at home?
